Tool verification and pre-verified tools
EPD Hub is a digital-native EPD programme that works with automated EPD generators. Every tool that connects to EPD Hub goes through a formal application process and an independent third-party verification. This keeps data consistent and reliable, and makes EPDs faster, more affordable and more efficient to produce.
Verification can cover a whole tool, or be limited to a single manufacturer or a single product category.
Choose the right type of tool
EPD Hub verifies two types of tools. They differ in how much of the EPD process is automated and verified up front.
Pre-verified tool
Generates complete EPDs from a verified calculation and reporting model.
-
Pre-verified calculation model
-
Complete EPD documentation
-
Simplified verification of each EPD
End-to-end verified tool
Generates complete EPDs through a fully verified, digital process, connected to EPD Hub through an API.
-
Integrity of input and output data
-
Streamlined publication of many EPDs
-
Annual tool verification instead of individual EPD verification
-
Fully digital EPDs

How to get your tool verified: Pre-verified tools
-
Express interest. Contact EPD Hub and tell us about your tool: your organisation, contact person, the tool's scope, the product categories it covers and its intended use.
-
Verify your tool with a third party. Engage an independent tool verifier and share the information they need to start. With support from your tool developer, prepare the tool documentation showing that the tool is complete, works as intended and produces compliant EPDs. Let us know which verifier you have chosen once you have an agreement.
-
Submit your tool for review. Send us the tool verification report, pilot EPD(s) and all supporting documentation. Our team reviews them and may ask for more information, clarifications or a demo of the tool.
-
Get approved. Approval typically takes 1–2 weeks, depending on the current pipeline and how complete your documentation is. Once approved, your tool and its verified version are registered with EPD Hub and listed on this page.
-
Create EPDs. Use the approved version of your tool to generate EPDs within its verified scope.
-
Simplified EPD verification. Each EPD goes through a simplified third-party verification, based on the simplified verification report accepted by your tool verifier.
-
Publish on EPD Hub. Once verified, your EPDs are published on EPD Hub in PDF or digital format.
-
Maintain your tool. Keep your tool compliant through renewal and controlled updates. Tell EPD Hub and your tool verifier about any change that could affect the verified scope, calculation methods, datasets, functionality or EPD outputs. Where a change affects compliance, the changed parts of the tool must be re-verified.
Note: The tool owner is responsible for tracking updates to the rules the tool follows, and for updating the tool when new versions are released.

How to get your tool verified: End-to-end verified tools
End-to-end verified tools connect to EPD Hub through an API. This integration can take development time and cost, and needs in-house expertise in IT systems and software development.
-
Express interest. Contact EPD Hub and tell us about your tool: your organisation, contact person, the tool's scope, the product categories it covers and its intended use. Depending on how mature your tool is, we may ask to screen it so we understand how it works.
-
Tool screening. Our team screens your tool to confirm its intended scope and check that its scope and features suit the end-to-end verified pathway.
-
Verify your tool with a third party. Engage an independent tool verifier and let us know who it is once you have an agreement. In parallel, your tool developer gets access to our API test environment to build and test the integration. With support from your developer, prepare the tool documentation, including a pilot EPD generated in the test environment that shows the tool is complete and works as intended.
-
Submit your tool for review.
Our support team then guides you through the steps to the API production environment.
-
Create EPDs. Use the approved version of your tool to generate EPDs within its verified scope.
-
Publish on EPD Hub. Complete the production API access process and accept the terms and conditions to receive your API credentials. Your EPDs can then be published on EPD Hub in digital format.
-
Further applications. To use your tool's data through downstream API connections, contact us.
-
Maintain your tool. Keep your tool compliant through annual verification, renewal and controlled updates. Tell EPD Hub and your tool verifier about any change that could affect the verified scope, calculation methods, datasets, functionality, governance or EPD outputs. Where a change affects compliance, the changed parts of the tool must be re-verified.
Note: The tool owner is responsible for completing the annual verification, coordinating the verifier and submitting the required documentation. The tool owner also tracks updates to the rules the tool follows and updates the tool when new versions are released.
